Asus RT-AC88U Dual-Band Wi-Fi Router Review

The Asus RT-AC88U measures 3.3 by 11.8 by 7.4 inches (HWD). It uses a matte-black housing with a beveled top and angular sides. It’s a very well designed router. The RT-AC88U features a broadcom 1.4 GHz dual-core processor and NitroQAM tech. This allows it to deliver speeds up to 3,167Mbps of combined wireless speed. It has four external antennae (removable), two on the rear and one on each side. It also has multiple ports on the back side of the router. Combined, the ports offer eight GB of eithernet ports. It features a 2.0 USB port, WAN port and power jack as well. On the front side, you’ll find a 3.0 USB port too!

The Asus RT-AC3200 is a Tri-Band router, and offers a number of customization settings. You can access all of the settings via a web UI, as well as a mobile app for your iOS or Android device. In the settings, you can prioritize bandwidth for applications, monitor daily usage, and change all admin settings. The RT-AC3200 also has a gaming boost page where you can connect to the WTFast Gamers Private Network (GPN). GPN is a client/server solution that uses proprietary software to speed up online games.

For virus detection, the RT-AC3200 features Trend Micro’s Smart Home Network Solution. This software will monitor and detect malware and viruses, as well as bloc malicious websites. It gives you parental controls and schedules too. And with the AiCloud feature, you can access all of your Wi-Fi’s data via your smartphone or tablet app.

Installation of the router is simple. Asus features an intuitive Setup Wizard that allows you to connect the router to your PC and automatically configure the router (or manually if you choose). It’ll check your internet connection, set up your router and allow you to connect to the internet within minutes of opening the box.

In 2012, Kameron founded HouseholdAudio as an outlet to write about his opinions and experiences with home audio and video products. Leveraging his first hand experience in the field while working for a general contractor, he began assembling lists of products, how to's and more. He tested products in his garage and reviewed them them as he installed them in custom homes. The goal was to give people easy access to quality information about car audio and electronics and tech so that you don't have to spend hours researching something like a home theater projector. Between 2015 and 2018 he worked as a Digital Product Manger at Motor Trend, working directly with the key editorial members like Mike Floyd and Ed Loh to build meaningful web experiences tailored to the automotive enthusiast. Today he's still assembling lists, testing products and writes articles along with the few members of HouseholdAudio's experts that he trusts. Apart from being the founder of HouseholdAudio, he's the primary editor and contributor of CarAudioNow.com as well.
