Epson Home Cinema 5040UB 3D Projector Review

The Epson Home Cinema 5040UB is a 1080p 3D 3LCD home theater projector that features 4K enhancement, HDR, and wide color gamut. Retailing at less than $3,000, this unit is moderately priced yet packed with impressive features. It’s RoHS compliant, making it one of the best units out there that is environment-friendly.

Picture Quality

This model of the Epson Home Cinema series has Epson’s 4K Enhancement Technology. While it is not true 4K, it accepts 4K input and would support HDCP 2.2, which means you can still enjoy 4K content. The unit is also HDR compatible, so your high dynamic range videos can appear as lifelike and gorgeous as possible. Having 2,500 lumens of brightness for both color and white brightness, paired with dramatic ultra black levels that delivers up to 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, you are sure to get crisp detail. Couple that with expansive color gamut, which means the unit displays the entire sRGB and DCI color spaces, and you’ve got superb images that will make you not want to leave your couch. As if all those packed features aren’t enough, the 5040B also boasts of 3LCD, 3-chip technology – you really get true-to-life color that can’t be beat.

Design

The 5040UB is available in white, which in aesthetic is the only difference between this and the higher-end 6040UB. With dimensions of 20.5 x 17.7 x 6.7 inches and weighing 24.3 pounds, this unit should be easy to fit into your home cinema whether on a flat surface or suspended from above. Designed with horizontal and vertical powered lens shift, as well as utilizing the “No Rainbow Effect” technology, you can use this unit with confidence even in home theaters with limited space, without sacrificing quality.
