Sony VPL-VW665ES 4K Projector Review

We’ve reviewed a number of projectors, including competing models like the Sony VPL-1100ES and JVC DLA-X700. The VPL-VW665ES is among the highest performing model’s we’ve had the privilege of reviewing. It’s among the best 4K projectors on the market today, hands down.

Sony is one of the few manufacturers that is currently producing true native 4K projectors. The VPL-VW665ES is one of the few models that Sony produces that uses their most innovative 4K technologies. It’ll redefine the meaning of a home theater.

Picture Quality

The Sony VPL-VW665ES has an incredible 4K resolution of 4096 x 2160, for a total of 8.8 million pixels. It’s actually the same resolution that you would see in many cinemas today. Yes, this projector is cinema quality. It features a number of great technologies that make it’s picture quality beyond what you’ve seen other home theaters. Advanced SXRD panels and an incredibly fast image response rate will give a smooth and detailed picture. Even the fastest action movies or sporting events are crystal clear. A dynamic contrast ratio of 300,000:1 makes it’s contrast and color truly brilliant too. If you appreciate highly detailed images, this contrast will really appeal to you.

Motion Flow technology is also a key feature of the Sony VPL-VW665ES. It’s what helps it’s lightning fast response rate. And with a 4K upscaler, it’ll bring new life to all standard resolution and Blu-Rays that don’t have 4K. And with an 1800 lumen, 280V lamp, the VW665ES is incredibly bright. You can count on its bright lamp lasting for 6,000 hours too (in low light mode). Even in rooms with ambient light, you’ll have no issues seeing a quality image with this projector.

Design

The Sony VPL-VW665ES is another large 4K projector. Its dimensions measure 19-1/2W x 7-7/8H x 18-1/4D inches. It’s pretty heavy too, nearly 31 lbs. It’s ultra-quiet too, with a cooling fan with 26dB. Even on high lamp mode, it’s quiet. It’s matte black finish is modern and discreet in any home theater.

All in all, the VPL-VW665ES is an excellent 4K projector. It’ll exceed your expectations for home theater video content, especially 4K. It’s a great unit. And with 4K being the latest technology today it’ll be a high-performance projector for years to come.
